Who Are Your Friends?

As I ponder while sitting here, I can't help but recall the humorous memes on Instagram that depict certain zodiac signs as brutally honest yet borderline rude. My words may occasionally seem harsh, but they always hold a certain degree of truth.

The title of this post is "Who are your friends?" It's a question worth considering. We often use the phrase "ride or die" to describe our closest companions, but do we truly understand its meaning? Personally, I don't want a friend who will blindly support me, even when I'm making bad decisions that could lead to severe consequences. I don't want a friend who sticks by my bullshit until we reach too much mess and end up in death. Instead, I want a friend who will encourage me to be my best self and call me out when I'm toxic. I value honesty and tough love because they're necessary for personal growth. Ultimately, I want a friend who will love me enough to prioritize my well-being, even if it means telling me some hard truths. I want a friend who says I love you, you're being a wreck, and I can't have that. I need you to survive. I want a ride and live friend.

What's the point of having a friend who encourages all your reckless behavior and enjoys watching you act foolish? That's a friend who is jealous and uninterested in your personal growth because they're not growing themselves. They prefer it when you act foolish like them because if you change and improve, that will make them look foolish.

So, who are your friends?

The one thing I have come to learn over the years is truly who my friends really are. Now it came with test, trials, heartache, and adversity to unearth and uncover the motives and intentions of the heart but it happened. I have been graced with friends that I call sisters and they each play a unique piece to the puzzle of me. My sister/friends are sent and handpicked from God. Some shine the spotlight on the impossibilities and say why not. Others, say "hey you better pray about it." Then there is always that one that is down for the cause until the wheels fall off. Nothing is greater than great friends.
