Why Do I Break Promises to Myself?

While sitting here, I let my thoughts and spirit guide my writing.
Sometimes, we tend to view the goals we set for ourselves as insignificant or trivial. For instance, I may set a goal to start a diet and exercise, but when I don't begin, I postpone it. Which is a goal most of us set all the time, and we fail to follow through.
As I make changes in my life, my perspective has started to shift.
When we don't follow through on the goals, we set for ourselves, we are essentially letting ourselves down. We are missing out on opportunities to improve our own lives, and potentially hindering our personal growth. We break the promise we made to ourselves. A lot of us say, "I'm going to start this goal. I promise I'll do better this time." We have this fire and desire to improve, but something blocks us. Is it procrastination, or do we not love ourselves enough, or do we not trust ourselves with the follow through? We should hold ourselves to the same standards that we expect from others. We might say, "I need time to forgive you for breaking your promise." So, we isolate ourselves from that person. So, when we fail to keep a promise to ourselves, we must keep the same energy towards ourselves. Put ourselves on time out, put ourselves on an action plan. If we never hold ourselves accountable, we never grow, and we create unrealistic expectations in life for people that we can't even meet.
First, we owe ourselves an apology for the constant heartbreak of not keeping our promises. Now, we need to figure out the why. Why can I not keep a promise to myself? Once we find our why, we need to find a plan to maneuver around that why and get to the finish line.
I hope this helps someone because as I grow, I share my journey and thoughts with whoever reads this. I write from a place of knowing because I've either been in that situation or going through that situation.
I'm looking for my WHY. I want to feel proud of achieving my goals, even if I keep them to myself. I want to look myself in the mirror and say,

"Baby girl, you did that."
